Learning at the frontier of science: A collaboration with Ghent University

At Bogaerts International School North Campus, we believe that learning becomes truly meaningful when it connects students to real-world contexts, real expertise, and real purpose. Our recent collaboration between DP1 students and the Ghent University PhD team is a powerful example of the intentional partnerships we are interested in consolidating so that we can elevate learning beyond the classroom and into authentic, memorable experiences.

During a full-day practical, our students engaged in advanced scientific techniques including cell culture, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry. What made this experience exceptional was not only the content, but the voices behind it. Our students were learning among passionate researchers who opened their laboratories, shared their expertise, and invited our students to step into the role of scientists.

These types of experiences reflect our ongoing commitment to designing learning that is intentional, dynamic, and deeply enriching. We strive to ensure that our students encounter a variety of perspectives and expertise that allow them to see how the knowledge they develop in school takes shape in the wider world. When students engage with professionals and institutions at the forefront of their fields, they are able to make meaningful connections, ask authentic questions, and envision pathways for their own futures.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Miyuki Aono, our Biology teacher, whose dedication and vision made this experience possible. Curating opportunities like this requires intention, care, and a deep belief in the potential of our students, and she made sure that this learning experience became not only informative, but transformative as well.
