As part of the Mooimakers movement in Flanders, Belgium, our secondary students have joined a wider network of citizens and organizations working to keep public spaces clean and welcoming. Equipped with gloves, litter pickers, and an unshakable sense of purpose, they walk our neighbourhood with pride, collecting litter and caring for the shared spaces we all benefit from.
However, this is more than a clean-up. It is an exercise in ownership, and active citizenship. Our students are learning that real-world problems require real-world action. They are practicing what it means to be part of a community, not just in name, but in daily responsibility and consistent care.
We are incredibly proud of their commitment and the way they model values that speak directly to our school’s mission: to prepare students not just for academic success, but for life; not just to learn, but to contribute.
As we continue this partnership with Mooimakers, we look forward to expanding our efforts and keeping our actions aligned with the needs and rhythm of the community we call home.
