Building a Culture of Care: Reflections on Our School-Parent Partnerships

Safeguarding and wellbeing are not add-ons to education. These concepts are the very foundation of the human dimensions of it. For this reason, at Bogaerts International School North Campus’ we commit to creating supportive, safe, and balanced environments for our students extends far beyond the classroom.

The partnerships that we nurture with parents, the dialogue we choose to prioritise, and the topics of our discussions are examples of the culture of care that we intentionally aspire to build as a community. A platform that we continue to systematically use to support these efforts are our Parent-Ed sessions.

The last set of programme-specific engagements for Primary, Secondary, and IBDP, reflected this philosophy in action. Parents gathered to explore themes of wellbeing, socio-emotional learning, and balanced lifestyles. What is more, they attended as deeply engaged collaborators, which led to a reflection that unfolded in a candid, thoughtful and principled manner.

What stood out most was the commitment our parents demonstrated by leaning into conversations that matter. Their questions, reflections, and willingness to share personal insights became a mirror of the shared values that guide us as a school: respect for diversity, recognition of rights and responsibilities, and a commitment to holistic education.

Moments like these serve as powerful reminders that a school’s strength lies not just in its curriculum, but in its community. By learning in collaboration, parents, leaders and educators together enrich the culture of safety, trust, and appreciation that we want every child to experience at North Campus. These sessions represent evidence of our community’s shared dedication to wellbeing as an integral part of school life.

As we reflect on these experiences, we also want to pause and consider a few questions:

  • What happens when we choose to align our understanding of wellbeing, not as a trend, but as a shared mission for our children’s growth?

  • How does a school community flourish when parents and teachers join forces to uphold a vision where every child feels safe, valued, and supported?

  • What might it mean for our children to grow in a culture where wellbeing is not a “fad” or a “session,” but a way of being, belonging, and becoming?

At Bogaerts International School North Campus, we remain deeply committed to continuing this journey in partnership with our parents. We believe that together, we are building more than a school. We are building a community of care.
