Exploring different art forms and emotions in Brussels

Ms. Phoebe Demetry wanted to extend the learning experience of her P1 students  as they develop their understanding of concepts related to shapes and perspective, while also exploring how these concepts manifest in the arts. To do so, she coordinated with parents to take students to the Happiness Expo at Mont des Arts in Brussels, which turned out to be quite a memorable experience.

Ms Phoebe shared the following in her social media.

“The P1 class from Bogaerts International School was engulfed by vibrant colours, awe-inspiring images and effects, and moving music. This immersive experience was perfect for our unit on "How we express ourselves" where we are focusing on different art forms and how emotions, thoughts and ideas are conveyed through them. The Happiness light installations were meant to shed a light on the importance of maintaining mental health.
As much as I, myself, felt absorbed by the vibrant colours and wished that they were apart of my daily life, my students feedback and differed experiences reminded me how focusing on the unfamiliar and unknown can prevent you from enjoying something so beautiful happening around you right then and there. At the same time, all experiences are valid, and those who were familiarising themselves with reflections and flashing lights, were where they needed to be on their journey.”
