LEARNING ACROSS DISCIPLINES

A Transdisciplinary Approach

Connecting multiple disciplines for deeper learning.

From the earliest age (3–5), our curriculum is designed with a transdisciplinary perspective. Rather than teaching subject-by-subject, we integrate language, mathematics, social studies, art, and science into unified learning goals, giving each concept greater meaning and context.
In Year 1, students explore ecological systems and habitats through language, mathematics, science, and social studies — discovering how natural systems remain balanced and how humans and animals interact within them.

An inquiry-based approach

In all parts of the curriculum, BIS focuses on the asking and answering of questions. We use these questions, the natural curiosity of our students, to drive the direction of education.

Our ultimate goal, but the end of a student’s PYP experience, is for that student to be an independent, self-motivated, curious learner who drives his or her own education through the asking and answering of these questions.

Conceptual Dimension
Learning is approached as a process of understanding ideas, not just memorising facts. Students are encouraged to think critically and creatively, exploring challenging concepts that help them develop decision-making skills and a sense of agency in the world.
Knowledge-based dimension
To ensure academic rigour, we also rely on structured content maps in language and mathematics. These tools guarantee that students build solid foundations and achieve their fullest potential within a competitive international standard.
Curriculum Structure
Our Early Years programme is organised into four units built on transdisciplinary and inquiry methods. The emphasis is placed on play-based learning, life-skills development, and social growth.

Curriculum Structure
Students in the Upper Primary Years Programme follow six learning units. Each unit is built on transdisciplinary and inquiry-based methods, ensuring a connected and meaningful approach to learning.
Pedagocial Inspiration
The programme is developed through deep collaboration among teachers, allowing for steady progression in both skills and understanding.
Focus on early literary
A highlight of the Upper PYP is the PYP 5 Exhibition. At age 11, students complete a highly independent and in-depth research project. This serves as their first experience of a capstone-style project, preparing them for the MYP Personal Project.
