Student Council as a Demonstration of Skills and Conviction, not Popularity

We believe students can demonstrate agency and leadership when we provide intentional opportunities for them to do so.  Likewise, we value reflection, preparation, and aspiration. For this reason, a tradition we have adopted is to create a real-life situation where students who want to be part of our student council write a motivation letter to seek the support of the community. Once endorsements have been obtained, they are given an appointment for an interview with our school's leadership team, our body of homeroom advisors, and the PE team.

We believe that this process encourages students to recognise their strengths, to practice reflection skills, to demonstrate perseverance to pursue a goal, and to demonstrate their communication and persuasion skills. This practice has allowed us to host a student council election that is not based on popularity, but on visible leadership.

This process highly supports students' agency and empowers younger students to recognise the value or hard work and merit.

Thanks to initiatives led by our student council in the academic year 2023-2024, we created new recreation spaces and started new school traditions.... This year, we are sure ideas will emerge from our student leadership.
